Rance & Maff aka Seb Jesus debuts on Piston Recordings with the superb ‘Patrick EP’. Hailing from Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, Rance & Maff is a new project for Seb and is fast becoming a renowned name in the techno, tech house and deep house arenas. He’s already well-known under his J- Zeus guise, dishing out cutting edge dance music called Sega & Maloya Electro and the self-defined initiator of the SegaPunk music style. On this new venture, he has already seen releases on Record Union and Irreel Records. He also produces music under Lakabane Recordings which, no doubt, we’ll be hearing much more of in the future.

‘Patrick’ opens the release, introing with bold, upfront kicks and shimmering hats. Rhtymic percussions stack up, laying a solid foundation for the groove to take effect. Melodic arps fade in before warm, groovy chords come through. A deep, plucky bassline shores up the low-end as various musical elements fill out the spectrum, making this a definite must have. Up next, we have ‘Mermaid Of Santorini’ which delivers another vibrant groove made up of punchy kicks and flurries of exotic and rhythmic percussions. Sharp chord stabs ramp up the energy as cosmic FX join in. Intricate melodies weave through the groove alongside short clubby vocal shots, creating layers of colourful textures that keep the keen ears listening. ‘Greek Grove’ rounds out the release, delivering a solid club fuelled groove. Tight beats and infectious percussion pattern create dancey rhythms while cool vocal shots keep us hooked. The energy builds relentlessly, carved out of an array of chords and staccato notes making this the perfect fodder for the peak time sets.
