Playful masters in groove, Matthew Burton & Nick Lawson bring their studio chemistry into
focus for Leftroom’s next delivery, ‘Playdo’. Featuring the remixing talents of Inxec, head
honcho Matt Tolfrey with up-and-comer Russo, and lady of the moment Laura Jones, the‘Playdo’ EP packs a serious punch. Already getting support from Sasha, Visionquest, Jozif with the original appearing on MattTolfrey’s 1Trax:One mix compilation, the EP is a true showcase of Burton & Lawson’s effortless style. A hypnotic groover, the original mix of ‘Playdo’ is alive with quirky sonic detail and trippy spontaneity, the spring-like sounds and spry electric keys provide ying to the yang of the moody bassline, clicky drums and evocative vocal rises. The release marks Matthew Burton & Nick Lawson’s debut on Leftroom after they first appeared on Left’d earlier this year. The pair met in Nottingham where they discovered a strong musical connection and started the club night Busta Groove (originally held in Berlin). Matthew has previously notched up releases on Retrofit and Ultrastretch and regularly performs live alongside his partner Kate Rathod while Nick Lawson runs the label SheWolf Music. Last seen together on the recent Spring/Summer Club Collection for Visionquest with the deep tech cut ‘Gruff It’, the duo is now firmly on the radar. Tolfrey & Russo introduce a rattling tech vibe in their remix of ‘Playdo’ with firm kicks and more bang instilled in the solid groove. In this first remix collaboration; Tolfrey welcomes another bright star of the future into the fold. Having submersed himself in the deep house scene in London over the past few years, Sam Russo has earned guest slots at fabric (London), Superfreq (France) and Ushuaia (Ibiza) while his initial forays into production on Fear Of Flying and VIVa Music have garnered impressive results. Inxec’s bass-heavy remix is rich in rolling percs and rhythmic layers, unfolding in an emotive rise of strings and heightened melody that adds more drama to the beautifully laid back original. With a career spanning all shades of house and techno, Inxec’s prowess never ceases to amaze. Next up is the definition of hot property, Laura Jones. Lending her deep, melodic style to huge releases for Leftroom and Visionquest, the girl can do no wrong with each new production winning her legions of fans. Here, the Leeds based producer accentuates the bassline and casts her magic with showers of glistening chimes and an injection of bounce. Winding down the package, Nick provides a dubby rework of ‘Playdo’ that shimmers with warm pads and down-tempo beats.
