I know what you're thinking, yes Sam von Horn and Claude Vonstroke are probably long lost distant relatives whose ancestors definitely partied it up together on ancient German dance floors.
In all seriousness, I've known Sam for a long time. We went to school together from Kindergarten through High School. The first party I ever DJ'd, Sam also got asked to play. Despite going to school together for years, we'd never realized that we were both strangely obsessed with underground dance music! It was hard to talk about weird minimal techno at time when most normal kids exclusively listened to pop and hip hop.
Sam was fearless as a DJ, he'd drop Dubfire, Plastikman and D. Ramirez cuts, not caring who he scared off the dance floor. It was pretty legendary... back in 10th grade hahaha
For college though, Sam went to the East coast and got swept up in the worlds of live instrumentation, and songwriting. We fell out of touch, and I'd assumed he'd moved on to other types of music, leaving house and techno behind.
About a year ago, Sam rolled through one of the first Fantastic Voyage House Parties, telling me that he had been rekindling his obsession for dance music!!
This collection of songs marks the debut of Sam Von Horn as an artist. He's one of the most thoughtful, talented artists I know and has a so much to say. He's vulnerable and sensitive about his music because he puts in 1000% of his heart, energy and emotion into his songs.
On this EP, Sam rediscovered his love for making Dance music:
"Dancing allows you to step outside of your mental framework and just move your body. An intuitive, unconscious reaction, that you share with people. It doesn't have to be a deeply introspective thing."
Funny how something so simple can be so profound. So excited to see this dude grow as an artist. SAM's THE MAN!!!
