From Russia With Love

From deep in St. Petersburg comes Right2Dance, a joint project between the city's most celebrated scene veterans. Nikolai "Koyla" Serebryakov and Andrey "Primat" Sorozhkin are both fixtures of the Northern capital's music scene. Primat is a respected club DJ, Koyla a classically-trained musician. Put them together, add some Russian vodka (or not) and what do you get? Deep, catchy, melodic house beats that don't get lost in translation.

Their new ten-track compilation on Bombay sub-label Manali Records features this debonair pair at their beat-fueled best.

The title track features an irresistible bassline and a gentle harmonic analogue melody, while through the Rain" delves deeper into quick, hopping beats. "Escape From the Subway" kicks off with a minimal tech-rhythm that brings to mind a movie chase scene, and hit single "Bowel" is a deep, late night banger with scratchy, sub-bass effects juxtaposed with a light pretty melody that feels like a sunrise, and a killer breakdown. Hear it to believe it.

So who are these debonair Russians, you may wonder? Well, from his popular jazz fusion band Fantomas (which has toured Europe with the likes of Incognito and Brand New Heavies) to his live techno outfit Derknob, Koyla is a true artiste; a master of genres. His love of acid-jazz and eclectic stuff contributes an irresistible musicality to the duo's productions -- especially showcased in Clear Sky. DJ Primat, meanwhile, brings to the table the proverbial dance floor. In short, his years of DJ prowess and vast dance music knowledge help direct Right2Dance's tracks towards peak dance floor experience.

Quite the symbiotic relationship between these long time friends, who started producing together in 2003. Righ2Dance continues to evolve, adding more live musicians and a hometown studio in the venerable St. Petersburg Music Hall.
