Kuzey makes a welcome return to Piston Recordings with the fantastic Morgenland EP, which follows his last outing here with a solid remix on Miguel Palhares’ Keep On Dancing. Born in Switzerland, growing up in Turkey and settling back in Switzerland, music has always been a big part of Kuzey’s life. He played around with various instruments as a child, piquing his interest in the electronic sound. In 2000, this interest starting to gather momentum, he began to DJ and ultimately secured many gigs across Europe, playing alongside some of the world’s most famous jocks. In 2008 he got into producing, but had to take a break from 2012 due to health reasons. After a short hiatus and back in full health, Kuzey is ready to go. He’s released a raft of tracks on several labels and he still has so much more to come.

Morgenland gets us underway with solid, minimal style deep house groove. Chunky beats and infectiously rhythmic percussions are joined by sharp chord plucks and ethnic sounds. A captivating vocal sends shivers down the spine, making this the perfect floor mover. Move Closer ramps up the energy with a straight up 909 style drum arrangement which is complete with punchy kicks and slicing hats. Soft pads fade up before a strong, warm bass pluck dominates the groove. Trippy effected piano chords are joined by equally trippy vocals resulting in a superbly crafted slice of deep house. Purely hypnotic from the get-go, this one is a must have. Sultans Deep Desire concludes the release, offering up a powerful groove filled with worldly sounds and deep, moody elements. Tight beats lead the way as exotic percussions set the rhythms loose. Striking ethnic sounds add intrigue and character which is just the right ingredients for the late-night session.
