Its been a bit quiet recently for Shur-i-kan aka Tom Szirtes. After a long string of releases including the critically acclaimed Last Night In Tokyo on Freerange, his collaborations with Milton Jackson and popular remixes for the likes of Robert Babitz and Lisa Shaw he decided to step back a bit. But that doesn't mean he hasn't been hard at work. He's back and to 'break the seal' on his forthcoming release schedule is this intriguing teaser called Fly EP.
Immactually produced, distinctively stylish but always uniquely Shur-i-kan this EP features a more back-to-basics approach than normal with stripped down arrangements. We start off (after a short intro to set the mood) with a track called The Fly that features a funky squelching beat with a meancing rolling bassline, topped with an abstract jazz breakdown. The next track In The Groove says it all, swinging along like Russell Brand in a nunnery, its has a distinctly jazzy feel with some dirty rhodes chord action. Finally Cats On Cracks loops it up and slows down the pace, with a filtered organic groove will make headz nod. Welcome back Shur-i-kan!
