Monkey Boots - Whitworth Strut EP
1. Hold Back The Night
Disco edit-not-edit mayhem! Hold Back The Night is built around a guitar loop manipulated in multiple ways to accentuate three distinct sections. The triple treat begins with a straight-up floorfilling groove and strong vocal before monster delays herald the arrival of a Moog-style bassline that drives the track into peaktime territory. Bouncy bongos maintain the momentum before string stabs punctuate the final hypnotic phase.
2. Whitworth Strut
Inspired, in part, by the sounds of the Madchester indie-dance revolution of the late 1980s, Whitworth Strut is built around a lolloping groove tailor-made for those who want to get a swagger on. Shiny stabs are augmented by analogue arpeggios before an anthemic synth riff is filtered up and down over an oh-so-simple, yet oh-so-perfect vocal refrain. Next, an ever-building wall of strings is worked over blunted Rhodes as a tremelo guitar chord adds to the intensity. Monkey Vibes In The Area!
