Citing artists like DJ Koze, Martin Buttrich and Mark Henning as influences is a potentially hazardous undertaking, invariably inviting your own productions to be held up against theirs. Andrew Soul’s growling basslines and dusty synths however bear healthy comparison to many of his peers considerably more experienced than he, and his latest EP is no exception. With previous releases on Stanjjur, Espai Music and Safari Numerique hinting at what the Italian producer was capable of, his ‘Stream of Consciousness EP’ is the perfectly crafted realisation of that potential. ‘Interior Monologue’ is a tense, angst-ridden ride through a stripped-down analogue landscape, lashed with off-kilter strains of synths, pounding low-end throb and ethereal vocals. ‘Disconnected Thoughts’ strips things back even further, with hazily shimmering pads and another bulbous bassline creating a beautifully warm, rich piece of subdued deep house.
