The No Static Automatic label steps out with another unconventional EP, this time in the form of some forward-thinking electro, bass and techno fusions from Power From The Skies, while Manchester modular maestro ReturnCodeZero remixes.

Power From The Skies aka Edd Wilson-Stephens has made music under various monikers over the years including SmashBack, while also running the Bass Gun label with Paul Blackford. He wrote a PhD on electronic musical instruments in museums, which involved the creation of a unique surround-sound exhibit for the National Science and Media Museum, exploring the impact of digital time-stretching technology on the shaping of musical genres such as drum and bass. In a similar vein, the Power From The Skies alias represents a more experimental project that finds him working at the boundaries of electro.

ReturnCodeZero does everything from sound design to A/V exploration, techno to electro. His remix of 'Doesn't Follow Logic' opens up with slithering synths, molten melodic patterns, and jacked-up drums. The wonky machine sounds have a feeling of futurism that locks you in deep.

Power From The Skies then steps up with 'Karaoke Calculator' which is built on menacing bottom ends and lithe drum programming. It's cavernous, dark, and heavy with beautiful delicate melodies drifting in its midst. 'Pylon Ground' is a fractious, broken rhythm defined by caustic synths that splutter out of the mix next to busted drum loops. It's raw, edgy, and essential. There are more dystopian visions in 'Malton Is A Sexy Town' with the vast hits and lurching drums, but distant chords bring a sense of hope. Closer 'Doesn't Follow Logic' is a twitchy and glitchy workout with flurries of jungle breaks that speak of paranoia, cyber surveillance, and AI meltdowns.

Power From The Skies offers a distinctive EP packed with texture, tension, and irresistible rhythms.
