Danny Ward (Moodymanc/Dubble D)'s Balaphonic project returns with "Medina", inspired by seeing locals practising Capoeira, (commonly known as a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music) on the beach on the first of subsequent visits to Essaouira, Morocco. Though known as Brazilian its origins are actually in Angola and thus was brought to Morocco via the slave trade en route to Brazil.
The concept of the track was to combine elements of Moroccan Gnawa with Brazilian percussion and rhythms (with a Mancunian twist of course!) to create a deep, grooving and evolving spiritual track, perfect for beaches, pool sides, sunsets and sunrises alike.
The vocals in the main mix are celebrating the glory of God. An instrumental edit accompanies for those who prefer things more dubby!
