Twenty years ago, Motech Records was formed as a project between two friends, Franki Juncaj and Shawn Snell, as an outlet to release music that would not be bound to the stringent genre definitions that most labels abided by.
The label’s inaugural release, the “Unfriendly” EP produced by Black Phuture, carried the label’s -001 imprint and despite being released twenty years ago, still stands today as a gritty, confrontational introduction to a Detroit label that is now over 150 releases deep.
Time has passed, yet the Motech credo of boundary defying, genreless classification continues…
