Nine Year Rez Timer EP

Virulent

Ill Bomb Records
IBR022 | 2013-04-16
For his inaugural Ill Bomb Records release, Midwest expatriate
Virulent, a veteran of Detroit techno labels such as Beretta and
Seismic, brings his unique brand of headstrong techno to the New
York-spawned label for his first release in almost a decade.
The Nine Year Rez Timer EP brings two original works that showcase entirely different sides of techno. "Basic Rate" is a shuffled stormer with a
driving bassline, edgy percussion and tension-filled builds
culminating in a deranged, bleepy synth that deconstructs itself
throughout the track. Justin Kase brings the techy darkness to the floor
with his signature brand of jackin' grooves and massive main room
sound. Virulent's next trick is the deeper, darker "Kill Command",
which introduces throbbing industrial-electro percussion and tortured
textures with a relentless drive and a classic arpeggiated synth
hearkening back to the early days of Birmingham techno. Owen Sands
strips the track down to the bare essentials for his remix, bringing a
stompy peak-time 909 workout with serious bite for the Berghain crowd.
