The year was 1996. The internet didn't even exist, and the only way you found out about parties was through flyers posted around town or word of mouth. Dance music was only available on 12" records that you could only get by hunting down scarce copies at the few local record stores scattered around the country, and each city had it's own unique sound you'd hear at the raves you would go to.
San Francisco was a hub for a psychedelic, groovy dance sound, with artists like Hardkiss Brothers, Doc Martin, Wicked Crew, Stompy, Your Sister's House and others were doing clandestine events scattered around the city. One of the records that you heard permeating at all these events was "Acid Funk", by the aliases of each of the Hardkiss brothers, Gavin's Hawke and Scott's God Within.
Fast forward nearly 30 years later, and the record that was a part of the foundation of Dirtybird's hometown is honored with remixes of this timeless classic.
From Gavin's personal edit, to the modern version from Smalltown DJs, to an unearthed collaboration from Sammy D, the artist that was on the very first Dirtybird records, and The Sheik 93, an artist who left our planet way too soon, and rounding it out with the enigmatic Rabbit in the Moon.
There are so many stories weaved through this package, it's impossible to tell in one blurb, so take a listen and begin the journey of Acid Funk.
