First Word Records is very proud to bring you 'Lost From Life', a new single from Quiet Dawn, featuring the vocals of Oliver Night, taken from Quiet Dawn's forthcoming album 'Celebrate'.
French multi-instrumentalist Quiet Dawn has been an integral part of the First Word family for a full decade now. His diverse catalogue has included organic ambient-jazz (2018's 'Human Being - The Short Story Of The Reed'), Dilla-esque instrumental beats (2023's 'Simple' beat tape), head nod Hip Hop (the 2015 debut album 'The First Day') and broken beat (2022's 'Movements' EP).
It's the latter project that this new project feels the most obvious successor to. Heavily inspired by the UK bruk scene, the 'Movements' EP also featured the vocals of Oliver Night; an accomplished singer, DJ & producer in his own right, working heavily with the CoOp Presents crew and artists such as Bel Cobain.
As we've hit the 20th anniversary of the First Word label, what better time is there to 'Celebrate'!
The forthcoming album from Quiet Dawn (real name Will Galland) takes on an array of broken beat flavours and features a few luminaries from that scene along the way (to be revealed!).
This first taste, 'Lost From Life', effortlessly blends Quiet Dawn's unique amalgamation of organic and electronic flavours. Squelchy synths and skippy percussion provide the bed for Oliver Night's delectably smooth and soulful vocals, to create a heads-down uptempo groove. Already garnering support from the CoOp Presents crew on their weekly Rinse FM show, this one's essential.
Previous support for Will's output has included a wide range of formidable selectors such as Laurent Garnier, Rampage, Tall Black Guy, Kev Beadle, Dom Servini, Kid Fonque and many more, whilst previous collaborations have included Makaya McCraven, Oddisee and Ohmega Watts; testament to the quality and breadth of Quiet Dawn's compositions and production talents.
'Lost From Life' will be available digitally worldwide on March 29th 2024, with the album 'Celebrate' pencilled for an early Summer release.
