STUG010 | 2024-05-10
Bart van Rijn’s STUG label has become synonymous with quality over the past couple years. Predominantly a vehicle for the label owner’s output, it generally sticks to a pretty tight script, with Bart responsible for original works, with an array of esteemed producers joining on remix duty.

It’s a way of working that’s worked expertly over the years, with Bart’s work being given a new lease of life by the likes of Rhadow, Perel, Works of Intent, Skudge, Kiwi, Gerd, Nikola Gala and more. As you might have noticed from the aforementioned, Bart’s handpicked guests are some of the most innovative artists in modern house and techno, so it’s no surprise to learn that the imprint is one that’s quietly morphed into one that’s held in great esteem amongst in-the-know collectors.

The label’s latest is a remix-only package courtesy of Dense & Pika, who turn in a spectacular reworking of van Rijn’s ‘Far’, which appeared in its original form as STUG008. The British duo have long been considered dab hands when it comes to remixing. Their mix is a firm, heads-down techno stomper that retains the original’s deepness and peak-time flavours, but adds a smart vocal lick that forces parallels with the likes of Robert Hood. Excellent stuff for educated dancefloors.
