Beautiful Ugly Collection

TNG010 | 2013-10-14
Following a string of successful releases since its launch, Nick Woolfson's, Teng imprint drops its first LP this October, in the shape of the 'Beautiful Ugly Collection' by Bluredism, a stunning ten-track album of experimental electronic music.
Cardiff based producer, Bradley Albertides, aka Bluredism is a relatively fresh name to most on the underground circuit, although his intelligently crafted, striking material has already earned him praise from Panorama Bar regulars Ryan Elliot and Martyn, a telling sign on the quality embodied in his music. Bluredism's recent 12'' dropped via the fledgling Y.C.O imprint, helping push Albertides into the limelight with LUVJAM and Owain K supporting.
The album opens with '5:01 Intro', a glitchy, sweeping opener which eases you into what's to come, 'Winning Colour' steps up with a dubbed out, off-kilter feel, brilliantly showcasing the classy understated production style of Bluredism. Staying on a similar tip, 'Life Don't Blink' employs broken-beat drums, warbling pad lines, and progressive arpeggiated synth lines, 'Dots In Patches' embraces a similar aesthetic, yet introduces sprinklings of jazz with organic percussion and seemingly improvised bass and Rhodes sequences.
As the title 'Beautiful Ugly Collection' would suggest, the LP contains a selection of cuts that take on the form of raw, gritty house and techno, as well as graceful, angelic tracks that put their focus on elegance and tact. The latter can be found in full force in tracks like 'If That's It', 'Pages Of You' and 'The Wind Stole My Hat' which tip their focus towards true musicality with evolving piano compositions, intricate melodies and clever production techniques.
This is an intelligent, forward-thinking LP from Bluredism, which ticks all the boxes for the educated listener, 'I Want To Breathe ft. Anna', shows us yet another side to Bluredism's production palette, as do 'Darkness Lights' and 'No Other Thought' with their stripped, minimalistic and hypnotic vibe adding a further appeal to the album.
