Simon Beeston and Andi Numan

Thoughtless Music
TLM096 | 2014-07-07
New Zealand is by all accounts a unique and mystical place, so it's no surprise the music emanating from the Pacific island chain embodies a similarly iconic sense of wonder. While Kiwi-Berliner expat Simon Beeston should be familiar from his work on labels such as Highgrade, Microzoo and Freizeitglauben – not to mention his recent remix of Signal Deluxe here on Thoughtless – he joins forces with fellow New Zealander Andi Numan for two tracks of deep yet highly effective club music. Freaks Back takes a vaguely psychedelic swirl of distorted pads and builds a dynamic arrangement atop compelling analog bass. Fellow countryman Emerson Todd takes time out of his busy production schedule for Upon You, Cocoon and Get Physical to deliver an amped-up peak-time rework centered around a powerful low end pulse, classic drums and well-honed modulations, while District of Corruption boss Aaron Hedges makes his Thoughtless debut with a deeper take full of ear-tickling sound design and playful acidic twists. Closing the release, Problem Bears presents the duo's synth-heavy leanings with its gliding lead riding high on chunky rhythms, culminating in an expansive breakdown tailor-made for this summer's biggest open air moments. Emerging from their primeval island home, Simon and Andi combine forces to deliver a pair of tracks designed to bring the freaks back to the dance floor where they belong...
