Shrouded in mystery, The Unhottest follow
up a stream of releases in 2014 with an impressive
debut on Dessous Recordings: three tracks
that live up to their name and everything they're
about. For it's clear the duo have no truck with
fashion - or being restricted to a clearly defined
genre. Drawing freely on a range of influences,
they construct deep - and deeply focused house
- as well as it can be done, with no frills or messing.
A tough kick and surging synth line - think Pépé
Bradock - underpin the heady title track,
around which a host of fine details slowly coalesce.
An organ chord scythes in; a bass line grows
organically: layer upon layer to make a delicious
concoction.
'Glam You Not' meanwhile, is an exercise in
pure, unadulterated, deep repetition, lightened
only by abstract metallic pings.
The slow-mo heavy groove of 'We All We Be'
- burnished by a glimmering synth repetition that
evokes Basic Channel - rounds things off with a
truly ethereal vibe. Its tight bass line will appeal
to DJs, while its cascading, feather-light synths
cast a golden - and instantly memorable - glow.
