SSOH is Claude Monnet's 20 year old label and yet it is still as fresh as ever. Next up on it is another EP from close label associate Geil who also gets remixed by Melokolektiv.
Geil is a French DJ and producer from Montpellier who has been making his mark for a decade now. He has played all over the world and has released on labels like this one, Geil is a new moniker that finds him cooking up a more intimate tech sound.
The one original here My Aim is a deep, brooding track with lots of open space filled with resonant bass. A dark, forbidding vocal line gets spoken up top and hiccuping drums and perc really suck you in.
Then comes the remix from Melokolektiv (aka a pair of French producers who have released on labels like Kindisch and OFF in the last four years) which is a deep and shadowy track with spooky voices littering the landscape. The drums really lock you into a groove and the dangling synths up top add real colour. It is pained and forlorn in terms of emotion and is sure to stand out on any floor.
This is another killer release from Geil who really is in a fine run of form right now.
