Zach Lubin

Liebe Detail
LDD035 | 2016-03-04
Germany's liebe*detail imprint brings their first release from Zach
Lubin of Chicago, known for his eclectic releases on Kimochi Sound and
Jeff Mills' 6277 sister-label of Axis.
Zach delivers a hefty and flavorful EP fusing melancholy yet uplifting chord progressions, dark dub influences, and filtered twisted funk. "Regeneration" and "Nation" build on dark tones and off-kilter patterns over slowly-varying melodic synth stabs revealing deep and minimal German techno influences.
"Afternoons For The Crazy" pays homage to the Detroit house sound, featuring funky improvised drum layering over chopped soulful samples.
The EP rounds out with "Multiplicative Scenarios" and "Your Favorite Days", immersing the listener/dancer in multiple intricate layers of melodic loops, invoking dreamy atmospheres and nostalgic memories.

Bio:
Zach Lubin is a DJ and producer from Chicago. Active for over 25
years, he grew up strongly influenced by Chicago radio from the early
1990s. At this time DJs like Bad Boy Bill and Julian Jumpin' Perez
regularly aired "hot mixes" on the weekends, introducing him to
Chicago house and early techno at a time when he was not yet of age to
attend the clubs. Since then Zach has been very active in DJing in
clubs and on radio both in the U.S. and abroad alongside major acts.
Zach runs the Obvio imprint, a reincarnation of his father's reggae
label from the early 1980s. The label serves as a channel for future
funk, sci-fi/urban techno, and other innovative electronic music. Zach
released Obvio's first EP "Urban Identity" this past year. In 2005 his
first release was on Jeff Mills' Axis side-label, 6277, the
"Controllability EP". Since then Zach has been keeping up eclectic and
prolific production output, releasing two albums on Parity and Ante
Records. Additional work includes multiple EPs on Chicago's Kimochi
Sound imprint, an EP on the UK's UntilMyHeartStops, and others. His DJ
style is very "hands on", often incorporating tricks and fast mixing,
balanced with a broad span of musical styles heavily rooted in the
sounds and techniques of Chicago and Detroit. He is a strong proponent
of improvisation and conceptual content behind DJ and production work,
and favors simplicity in a studio setup with focus on squeezing
creativity from limited resources rather than throwing hefty technical
complexity at the process from the outset. He is currently at work on
upcoming EPs as well as a new album for his Obvio label. Zach's music
can be found at most online music stores, as well as his own
Soundcloud page and the Obvio Bandcamp page.
