Let's just get right to it... The NY Underground culture of Hip Hop and House music would not have been possible without Voodoo Ray.
The culture is a growing, living, breathing humongous tree with many branches. And Ray was indeed one of those branches. With a career that spans over 3 decades, Voodoo Ray first emerged as a dancer for Kurtis Blow; One of Hip Hop's early fathers. Now Mr. Voodoo Ray has a resume that won't fit in a single page but rather what looks like a manual.
Throughout his life Ray dedicated himself to the culture by curating some of the most important events and weekly gatherings in its history to date (Funkbox, BoggieLand Central, Toca Tuesdays). And it's no wonder that every DJ wanted to play for his parties or have him host them. Just ask Tony Touch, Louie Vega, Barbara Tucker, Rich Medina, Bobbito Garcia, DJ Spinna, Osunlade and any other artist whose had the honor. From WMC Miami all the way to Mi Casa in Mexico, Ray was the root from which so many of us sprouted.
It is with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to this legend in our culture. And even as he departs from us in this realm, he still manages to spread his Love and his Ray of light. Which is why here at Moca Arts Music with the support of Traxsource we proudly announce Voodoo Ray's debut as a recording artist.
