„Circus Maximus“ is the title of the fifth TAPE FIVE album from 2015 - and we always wanted to do another version of the title song. Or to be honest: this is the version we should have done right from the start! Of course it ́s not a circus with elephants and clowns – but about the big, strange circus of life with the rich mad tapestry of crazy politics and religion!
So here we are back with the original swinging TAPE FIVE style with rolling clarinets, sizzling brass, swinging beats and some retro gimmicks thrown into the mix.
After we recorded the clarinet with our own fantastic „Mad Dog Markitantov“, Don Vito, Dimi Hendrix – or just Dimitrij Markitantov, we soon realized the licks were so sweet, that we needed another version to feature them in all their fantastically fantabulous lushness, and going easy on the loud beats. We could have called it the „Benny G. remix“ (of course a tribute to Benny Goodman) but we just called it „unplugged“ - which should give a clear idea to the average listener, which of course, as you are reading this, you are not!
By the way, I ́m getting ready for a trip back to 1927, but my time machine needs an upgrade right now...
