Back Bar Grooves

Parnell March

Hobbes Music
HM029EP | 2025-02-28
Parnell March (from Belfast/Ireland via Perth/Australia) releases his 'Back Bar Grooves' EP via Edinburgh's Hobbes Music label on Friday 28th February.

It's a collection of percussive and groovy slices of electronica inspired by his time working in the back bar of Lavery’s Bar in Belfast city centre.

At the time, Lavery’s Bar in Belfast was known as the busiest bar in Europe, buzzing with students and all walks of life. In contrast, the Back Bar attracted a mix of local hippies, ravers, thespians and other oddballs, with many regulars propping up the bar every night without fail. Some of those regulars were the bar's pillars and kept grooving night after night.

Back Bar Grooves incorporates obscure samples from early 90s dance music while blending modern electronic melody and percussion, with nods to contemporary producers such as Four Tet and O’Flynn.

The material has been going down well on promo and is a worthy follow-up to his widely praised 2021 album, Ozone Parade.

DJ Feedback:

"It’s so good I played it (Basil's Drums) twice. As last track at the end of my first set, and first track in second. Gonna be caning this. Deffo do vinyl on this. Reminds me of the first time I heard that intro of The Goodmen. The effect was exactly the same when I played this TWICE yesterday" YOGI HAUGHTON (MFSB, Scottish Soulful Weekender etc)
"Nice - dodgy 303 for me" SEAN JOHNSTON (A Love From Outer Space etc)
"I have a folder PERCUSSIVE HOUSE and this going to to it. Great Great Great" KITO JEMPERE (St Petersburg, RU // Worldwide)
"I'd highly recommend checking out the EP" MAIRI B plays Back Bar Gerry's In The Groove on RADIO BUENA VIDA
