HUGH CLEAL

Detroit native Hugh Cleal has always kept music close to his heart. Coming from a family of musicians, he picked up the violin and played in a concert orchestra through grade school. He also took part in theatrical plays where he began to sing and act. It was during this time Hugh realized that music and the arts were going to be his life.

In the mid 90’s, Hugh was swept away by the Detroit underground music scene.. He founded /sin-de-kat/ productions in 1996 and produced events that debuted acts such as Deep Dish, Carl Cox, King Britt, Q-Bert, The Pharcyde, Little Louis Vega, Ron Trent, and Funkmaster Flex to name a few.

Hugh quickly gained the respect of his peers with his warehouse parties series in Detroit and was offered a position at Motor Lounge which hosted just about everyone over its 10 year lifespan.

After a long hiatus Hugh's desire to push the envelope has led him back into music and with a little equipment and lot of effort he has come out of the gates running with numerous releases out since his production debut in 2010. In a short time he has already been featured on Open Bar Music, Juiced Music, Exchange Bureau, Full Flavor, Deep Hype Sounds, Ospina Digital, and Selektor Music with much more in the works. Most recently Hugh has launched a 12" record label with partner Wattie Green called Coyote Cuts in May 2011.

Being a performer by trade Hugh has remained active in the underground and club scene in Detroit. Playing weekly at various venues Hugh has brought in a range of talent for events in city ranging from Mark Farina to Wolfgang Gartner. In addition he has played gigs throughout the US.
