Spring of 2021 sees the release of Catalyst by Default Position's label founder Joseph S. Joyce, with remixes from Terry Francis and Paul 90.

With pulsating 808 kicks, dark cavernous percussion lines, and tight vocal snippets, Catalyst can be best described as a stripped-back minimalist cut with elements of dub and main room techno inclinations.

Long-standing Fabric resident Terry Francis makes his second appearance on Default Position following his vinyl release Gasworks in 2016. In a remix that gradually builds towards a crescendo of quirky dub chords and low slung pads, Francis injects Catalyst with a cheeky baseline, a dose of driving percussions, and a smattering of tripped out pitch delays.

Paul 90 is one of the founding members of Default Position, having remixed Joseph S Joyce's 'The Vision' in 2013 under his alias Chapman. Fast forward to 2021 and Paul once again brings his love of the 90's underground to his remix, with a trademark UK Garage-inspired shuffle and a driving 909 kick that sits in contrast against the dubby elements of the original track. The end result is a delicious groovy house track that reminds us of those naughty summer evenings out in London town.
