RS4 is UK dance music pioneer Oris Jay and this EP showcases three direct dancefloor tracks that connect London’s bassy deeptech sound to the rich bleepy history of his hometown Sheffield.

Oris Jay has made powerful musical contributions to almost every British black music movement in the last 25 years, from UK garage to dubstep and breaks, jungle to house and deeptech. He’s undeniably an unsung hero of Sheffield and Britain's global musical influence.

He was one of the founding members of the FWD>> scene which would go on to incubate the dubstep sound. In that era he mentored Mark One, who would go on to be one of house music duo Solardo.

On this EP he explores the bleepy, bassy but accessible deeptech sound that began in London in the late 00s with DJs like Mark Radford and gained additional prominence in 2014.

But in tracks like the lead cut “I'll Be Good,” he adds his own Sheffield twist that harks back to the bleep era of LFO, Forgemasters, Unique 3's and Nightmares On Wax.

This was the scene in which he first began raving, at Sheffield venues like The Limit. You can hear him explore these influences further in “My Mind” and “Tickin Me Off.”

5 Oris Jay classics:

“Biggin Up The Massive” ft MC Rankin - UKG. 2000.
“Test Dis” ft Ms Dynamite - UKG. Prod 2002, out 2016
“Said the Spider” - Early dubstep/breakstep. 2002
Sia “Little Man (RS4 refix)” - Deeptech. 2013
“Raze” ft Amit - Drum & bass. 2016.

“I’ll Be Good” EP is out on Keysound Recordings on the 25th of February featuring the title track, “My Mind” and “Tickin Me Off.”
